Sevens group stage matches were conducted today (19th March) in the SLC Inter-District Limited Overs Tournament 2017.

Kegalle vs Kurunegala

Kusal Janith Perera blasted his second century in the tournament as Kegalle District annihilated Kurunegala District by 8 wickets at Colts grounds.

On Wednesday, Kusal Janith made an unbeaten 161 against Puttlam District in the season opener and this time around he fell for just 105 runs in chase of 170 runs. Young Avishka Fernando gave able support with a fine, unbeaten 47.

Earlier, off-spinner Akila Dhananjaya and seamer Mohommad Shiraz grabbed 3 wickets apiece to dismantle Kurunegala to 169.

Hambanthota vs Galle

Yashoda Lanka sizzled his way to a stunning, unbeaten 143 as Galle District trounced Hambanthota District by 6 wickets in their game played at Surrey Village grounds.

After restricting their opponents to 232, Galle cruised through the target as Lanka cracked 18 fours and 4 sixes during his 96-ball knock.

Hambanthota – 232/9 in 50 overs: Pathum Nissanka 60, Shenal De Silva 52*, Damindu Ashan 36, Roshan Jayatissa 2/33, Lakshan Jayasinghe 3/38, Chalana De Silva 3/23.

Nuwara Eliya vs Matale

Ruvindu Gunasekara cracked his maiden ton on Lankan soil as Nuwara Eliya District defeated Matale District by 27 runs at Welisara Navy grounds.

After opting to bat first, Nuwara Eliya made a staggering 314 runs on the scoreboard with Gunasekara slamming 8 fours and 6 sixes during his excellent 121-ball 107. Left-handed Primosh Perera made a cracking 71 as well. In reply, Matale District fell short of the target despite Madura Madushanka’s unbeaten century.

Ratnapura vs Monaragala

Ratnapura District registered their first win in the tournament beating Monaragala District by 29 runs in their game at NCC grounds,

Monaragala District skipper Chaminda Bandara won the toss and elected to field. Left-arm seamer led from the front taking 4 wickets to restrict Ratnapura to 231. Monaragala faltered in their chase as they were bundled out for just 202 runs. Skipper Rajeewa Weerasinghe and left-arm spinner Naveen Kavikara grabbed 3 wickets apiece for the winners.

Ratnapura – 231 all out in 47.1 overs: Maduranga Soysa 32, Chanaka Ruwansiri 35, Sajith Dissanayake 64, Charith Fernando 29, Chaminda Bandara 4/65, Chalanaka Weerasinghe 2/37, Ryan Kern 2/28.

Trincomalee vs Batticaloa

Trinicomalee District recorded a thrilling one-wicket win over Batticaloa District in their match worked out at BRC grounds.

After opting to bat first, Batticaloa managed only 178 runs. Skipper Harsha Vithana top scored for the hosts while Buddhika Sandaruwan grabbed 3 wickets for Trincomalee district. In reply, Trincomalee District Captain Roscoe Thattil made a fighting 43 but it was Sohan Rangika who made a vital, unbeaten 23 to take Trincomalee District over the winning line.

Batticaloa – 178 all out in 47.4 overs: Harsha Vithana 59*, Rumesh Buddhika 39, Vikum Sanjaya 28, Buddhika Sandaruwan 3/32, Janaka Peiris 2/28.

Trincomalee – 184/9 in 43.3 overs: Roscoe Thattil 43, Dimuth Warapitiya 25, Sohan Rangika 23*, Dinuk Hettiarachchi 3/39, Andy Solomons 2/26, TM Sampath 2/36.


Kilinochchi vs Vauniya

Skipper Harsha Cooray’s unbeaten century guided Kilinochchi District to a comfortable 9-wicket win over Vauniya District at Army Grounds in Panagoda.

After opting to bowl first, Sri Lankan seamer Kasun Rajitha grabbed 3 wickets while off-spinning duo, Kaushalya Gajasinghe and Suraj Randiv took 2 wickets apiece to keep Vauniya to 173. Cooray then made 8 fours and 4 sixes during his 96-ball 108 to secure the win.

Vauniya – 173 all out in 40.4 overs: Samith Dushantha 40, Asel Aluthge 40, Dinusha Fernando 32, Kasun Rajitha 3/44, Kaushalya Gajasinghe 2/24, Suraj Randiv 2/40.

Kalutara District managed to defeat Gampaha District by 4 wickets in their game at CCC grounds.

Experienced Hasantha Fernando and youngster Madawa Nimesh made fighting half-centuries after Manjula Guruge and Mishen Silva grabbed four wickets apiece for the winners.
