The final day of the Junior National Athletics Championship 2022 was worked out on 10th June at the Sugathadasa Stadium, Colombo as the much-expected 100m and 400m champions were crowned today.

Sri Lanka National Champion in 400m, Walala A Ratnayaka athlete Tharushi Karunaratne had no competition in her age category as she won the finals comfortably in U20 girl’s 400m with a timing of 54.34s. This is a new Meets record too and the best timing for 400m girl’s events overall in the Junior Championship 2022. (Previous Record -Dilshi Kumarasinghe – 54.36 – 2018)

Long Jumper Hirusha Hashen of St Peters College was crowned as the Overall best Athlete of the tournament because of his massive leap in the U20 boy’s category of 7.78m.

Hashen and Karunaratne are already qualified for the World Junior Athletics Championships in 2022

Only other Meet Record for the day was recorded in 400m in the U23 girl’s category by Harahani Fernando – 54.96s (Previous Record – PGN Madushika – 55.10 – 2017)

In the 100m events, the fastest timing was produced by 2022 National Champion Chamod Yodasinghe who ran an 11.02 race into a head win of -3.2m/s. His female counterpart Dulyana Suludagoda was the fastest in girl’s 100m with a timing of 12.27s (-2.2)
