The Intermediate Age Group Swimming Championships 2023 organized by the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union was held this past week with the participation of 836 total athletes from 110 different schools and clubs at the Sugathadasa Swimming Pool Complex.

The intermediate age group championship is the bridge that connects novice qualified swimmers to the National age group standard. It lies in the middle with a separate qualification time standard.

Bishop’s College – Colombo, and St. Peter’s College – Colombo was able to grab the women’s and men’s overall champion titles with 125 and 198 total points respectively.

It is a positive sign for the sport and for the 2023 Novices Champion school: Bishop’s College to witness their success in the process as they have advanced the team to become the Intermediate Champions 2023.

Additionally, 6 individual intermediate age group champions were highlighted the last weekend.

Under 15 Girls – M.K.I.Vithulya from Lion Swimming Club Ambalangoda

Under 15 Boys – P.K. Dinura R.P. Gunatilake from Royal College

Under 17 Girls – Thilinika Parakramasinghe from Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya

Under 17 Boys – G.P.S. Mahima Hettiarachchi for Killler Whale Aquatics

Under 20 Girls – L.P.D. Vinodani from Seenigama Aquatic Club

Under 20 Boys – Praneeth Hansaka from St. Peter’s College

The next competition in line for aquatics is the National Age Group Aquatic Championships 2023 scheduled to be from the 1st of June – 04th of June at the Sugathadasa Swimming Pool Complex.
