Sri Lanka U19 enjoyed a dominant opening day of the first Youth Test against India U19, posting an imposing 344 for 4 at stumps on Day 1 of the two-match series at the Galle International Cricket Stadium on Monday (13th July).

Having won the toss, Sri Lanka U19 skipper Vimath Dinsara chose to bat first. However, the hosts suffered an early setback as openers Dimantha Mahavithana and Dulnith Sigera were dismissed with just 3 runs on the board.

Number three batter Senuja Wekunagoda and captain Dinsara then staged a remarkable recovery, adding 143 runs for the third wicket to steady the innings. Dinsara played a composed knock of 50 before being dismissed after laying a solid platform for the hosts.

Wekunagoda continued to anchor the innings and built another crucial partnership, this time adding 128 runs for the fourth wicket alongside Kavija Gamage. Gamage narrowly missed out on a half-century, contributing a valuable 49 runs.

The star of the day was undoubtedly Wekunagoda, who produced a magnificent unbeaten double century. The stylish left-hander remained unbeaten on 203 off 227 deliveries, an innings decorated with 31 boundaries, guiding Sri Lanka U19 to a commanding position at the close of play.

For India U19, Kavya Paresh Patel was the most successful bowler, claiming 2 wickets for 54 runs, while the visitors found it difficult to contain the Sri Lankan batters for much of the day.
