The first Unofficial Test between Sri Lanka ‘A’ and India ‘A’ ended in a draw today (28th June) at Galle International Cricket Stadium.
Having won the toss, India ‘A’ elected to bat first and posted a formidable 452 for 6 declared in their first innings. The skipper Dhruv Jurel led from the front with a superb century, while opener Sai Sudharsan also reached three figures as the visitors dominated with the bat.
For Sri Lanka ‘A’, seamer Chamika Gunasekara was the most successful bowler, finishing with figures of 3 for 84.
In reply, Sri Lanka ‘A’ were bowled out for 330 despite fighting half-centuries from Nuwanidu Fernando, Sahan Arachchige and Ashen Bandara. India ‘A’ seamer Auqib Nabi starred with the ball, claiming 4 wickets for 58 runs to hand his side a first-innings lead of 122 runs.
India ‘A’ then declared their second innings on 189 for 8, setting Sri Lanka ‘A’ a victory target of 312.
Left-arm spinner Dilum Sudeera produced an outstanding bowling performance, claiming 5 wickets for 49 runs to restrict the visitors and keep Sri Lanka ‘A’ in the contest.
Sri Lanka ‘A’ reached 70 for 2 in their chase before persistent rain forced an early end to play, resulting in the opening unofficial Test being drawn.
