Dimuth Karunaratne pushes World Cup case with timely century

The two most consistent teams of the tournament, CCC and SSC, booked their respective places in the final of the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Major Limited Over Tournament today (17th Sunday). 

SSC vs Saracens SC 

Dimuth Karunaratne who has been a hot topic in the recent past to make it to the squad for the 2019 World Cup in the United Kingdom, hit a match winning century for SSC against a promising Saracens SC unit. 

Karunaratne who walked out at number 3, went on to hit 109 off 115 balls inclusive of 12 boundaries. 

Kaushal Silva also made a fluent 62 as SSC posted a competitive 296/9 with Saliya Saman bowling best for Saracens picking up 3/60.

The Saracens run chase was in shambles early on with three early wickets for less than 10 runs, but Nipun Karunanayake hit a spirited 81 to keep them in the hunt. 

Gamindu Kanishka also made a useful half century as Saracens reached 190/6 in 39 overs when the heavens opened up with them 36 runs behind on the D/L method. 

Dhammika Prasad bowled a hostile first spell for SSC as he captured 2/40, while his new ball partner Nuwan Pradeep gave him excellent support.

Moors SC vs CCC

CCC romped into the final when they thrashed the dark horses of the tournament, Moors SC by five wickets at the Colts grounds in Colombo. 

Wanindu Hasaranga bamboozled the Moors batsmen with his leg spin going on to vogue 4/43, while fast bowlers Lahiru Madushanka and Lahiru Gamage captured two wickets apiece. 

Lahiru Attanayake was the only shining light in the Moors batting effort as he fought a lone hand making a half century.

CCC raced to their target in just the 27th over with stylish left-handed Ron Chandraguptha recording a half century. 

Madawa Warnapura also chipped in with 35 for the winners while Malith de Silva and Ramesh Mendis picked up two wickets apiece.
