As we near the halfway mark of the Dialog Champions League 2016 Super 8 stage, it’s still very tight at the top, despite Colombo FC and Army SC building some momentum courtesy of back to back wins.

ThePapare.com looks at what’s to come in Week 4 in detail.

Colombo FC vs Army SC (20th January at 3:20pm at Kelaniya Football Complex)

By far the biggest game of the week, with last year’s DCL and FA Cup champions coming head to head in a mouthwatering clash. Both teams go into the clash with good momentum after winning both their games since the resumption of the Super 8 after a 3 month absence.

However Army SC’s win against Renown is in danger of being reversed after Army were found to have played with an ineligible player.

Ineligible player lands Army in hot water

The result of Army SC’s crushing win over Renown SC in the 2016 DCL Super 8 Week 3 is in danger of being overturned after Army is said to have fielded an ineligible player.

Colombo FC have had 5 different goal scorers for their last 5 goals and their counter attack based style of play has made them a dangerous team.

For Army, it’s been their strikers who have been in irresistible form, with their front three having 2 goals apiece in their last 2 games.

It’s bound to be a great game of football which may just decide the DCL this year, the way things are panning out.

Solid SC vs Renown SC (21st January at 3:20pm at Kelaniya Football Complex)

Solid will go into this key clash after a disappointing 1-1 draw against New Youngs saw them drop 2 valuable points in the hunt for the title.

On the positive side though, their key forward, Ismail Abumere was back on the score sheet and they’d be hoping he hits form at this crucial point in the season.

Renown also would be upset at how they got thumped 3-0 by Army last week and will be desperately keen to get their campaign back on track.

Both teams are breathing down the backs of the top three but a win is a must for either team if they are to stay in the race for the title.

Blue Star SC vs New Youngs SC (22nd January at 3:20pm at Kelaniya Football Complex)

Blue Star have gone back to back games without securing a win but their 2 draws means they are still very much in the hunt for the title, provided that one of the top 2 drop any points this week.

Their fantastic comeback  from 2-0 down against Navy will give them some confidence going into the next game.

New Youngs have struggled to keep up with the leaders in the standings, with many injury related changes hampering their team cohesion.

They have not been easy to beat though with Solid SC and Renown both having had to come from behind to claim whatever points they did against the team from Wennappuwa. Hasitha Priyankara has been among the goals and will be key for them if they are to pick up a win over Blue Star, who will go into the game as marginal favourites.

Navy SC vs Air Force SC (23rd January at 3:20pm at Kelaniya Football Complex)

Both teams look out of the race for the title, the way things stand and they go into this clash without a win from their first 3 games.

Air Force have 2 points but a yet another late goal saw them lose to Colombo FC and their concentration in the final minutes needs to improve if they are to successfully see out games.

Navy on the hand will be livid with themselves after throwing away a 2-0 lead over Blue Star and will be keen on a win to drag themselves off the bottom of the table. All in all Air Force SC do look the better team overall and should pick up all three points.
