BRC overcome Colts to emerge champions

BRC beat Colts by 11 runs in a closely contested final of the BRC ‘sixes’ tournament 2016 while Moors overcame SSC in the 3rd place playoff played at the BRC grounds in Colombo today(13).

The day began with the 1st semifinal between Colts and Moors which ended in a thrilling win for the former. Colts batting first made 61 runs with Ishan Jayaratne making a useful 25 runs and Dilruwan Perera (15*) and Sadeera Samarawickrama (18) also making useful contributions. Shanuka Dulaj’s  quickfire 24 kept Moors in the hunt but they eventually fell short by 4 runs. Sri Lanka test spinner Dilruwan Perera bowled an excellent over for Colts while also grabbing two crucial scalps.

BRC, SSC, Colts and Moors qualify for semi-finals

T.M. Sampath was the hero for BRC in the 2nd semifinal as they overcame SSC by a comfortable 26 run margin. Sampath scored 26 runs in a total of 65 for BRC while he also returned with ball to grab two wickets. Andy Solomons also picked up one wicket conceding just three runs.

In the 3rd place play off Moors stunned SSC when they bowled and fielded brilliantly to secure a hard fought 5 run win.  Lassana Perera was the stand out performer as he grabbed the man of the match award for his 2 wickets and useful contribution with the bat.

BRC made a competitive 66 runs in their allotted five overs in the grand final thanks to useful contributions coming from Andy Solomons(28) and Rumesh Buddika(22). Priyamal Perera picked up one wicket and conceded just ten runs in his over for Colts.  In reply, Colts lost wicket at regular intervals as they were eventually restricted to 55 runs for the loss of four wickets. Dilruwan Perera starred with the bat making 25 runs while fast bowler Vikum Sanjaya bowled a brilliant over to hand BRC the opening title of the 2016/2017 Sri Lanka domestic season. Andy Solomons was named the man of the final.

Champions BRC received huge prize money of Rs. one million while runner-up Colts received Rs. 250,000
