Trinity College Kandy took first innings honours over St. Peter’s College Bambalapitiya in a high profile inter school under 19 cricket  match which ended in a draw at the De Soysa Stadium in Moratuwa today.

Trinity College went on to snatch a slender first innings lead over their rivals while declaring at 165 for 7 wickets mainly due to a fighting half century from middle order batsman Kaveen Hiniduma.

St. Peter’s College then produced an improved batting performance in their second innings while scoring a healthy 206 for 5 wickets before declaring after 68 overs.

The Peterite second innings was built around two good half centuries from newcomer Hashan Wanasekera (73) and the experienced Janith Liyanage (72) with Sanjula Madushan and Dineth Thimodya providing excellent support.

Wanasekera and Liyanage ensured that their batting would not collapse for the second time in the match while putting up a determined effort against some quality spin bowling.

Trinity College of course used their second innings for some valuable batting practices after they were set an impossible victory target of 200 runs during the final session of play.

The visitors eventually reached a shaky 80 for 4 in their second innings with Ron Chandraguptha making an impact scoring 41 runs while Sahan Nanyakkara and Taneesha Weerakoon captured two wickets each for the Peterites.
