Avindu and Sandun score tons for Prince of Wales

Three matches in the Singer Schools U-19 Division 1 two-day cricket tournament 2017/18 were conducted today around the island.

Prince of Wales vs St. John’s College, Panadura

The Cambrians won the toss and opted to bat first on a solid home track in Moratuwa. They hammered the John’s bowling attack to all parts of the ground and posted a mammoth 350 for 2 in just 62 overs. Avindu Fernando and Sandun Fernando were unstoppable with the willow as both notched up unbeaten tons in the group ‘B’ encounter which commenced today.

In reply, the visitors lost 4 quick wickets and have a daunting task ahead in the second day with Prince of Wales in the hunt for an outright victory.

Trinity College vs Nalanda College

The Trinity Lions were asked to bat first by the Nalandian skipper in the traditional encounter which began today at Nalanda grounds, Colombo. All the batsmen got starts, but failed to make big numbers as the visitors got bowled out for a decent 227 inside 64 overs.

In reply, the hosts went on to make 127 for 3 wickets with the help of Ravindu De Silva who stroked a classy half ton as the umpires called it a day.

The match will continue tomorrow for day two.

Zahira College vs Mahinda College

Mahinda skipper won the toss and put the visiting Zahirians in to bat in the group ‘D’ encounter which started today at the Galle International Stadium. The bowlers, backed up with some brilliant fielding efforts, rattled the Maradana boys, bowling them out for 108 in 35 overs.

In reply Mahinda College were in total control of the game as they built a 72-run lead going in to the second day.
