Just a few days before the the Asian Cricket Council meeting, scheduled on March 3, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has said that the 2020 edition of the Asia Cup will be held in Dubai.

Pakistan were supposed to host the tournament but India weren’t willing to travel to Pakistan. The BCCI had earlier stated that it didn’t have a problem with Pakistan hosting the Asia Cup, as long as it was held at a neutral venue.

Speaking to reporters at the Eden Gardens on Friday (February 28), Ganguly said: “Asia Cup will be held in Dubai and both India and Pakistan will play.”

Since 2012-13, India and Pakistan haven’t faced each other in bilateral series owing to political tensions between the two nations. They have, however, played against each other in major ICC competitions as well as the Asia Cup.

The Asia Cup, which is played one every two years, hasn’t been hosted by Pakistan since 2008. Sri Lanka hosted the 2010 edition while the next three editions were held in Bangladesh. The last Asia Cup tournament took place in the UAE.

Since 2016, the Asia Cup has been on a rotation basis – alternating between T20Is and ODIs – with the 2020 edition set to be a T20 tournament in preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
