Jofra Archer, the England fast bowler, was levied with a fine, alongside being issued an official written warning after he accepted that he breached the side’s bio-secure guidelines by making an unsanctioned visit to his home in Hove. Ashley Giles, Managing Director, England Men’s Cricket, chaired the disciplinary hearing.

ECB, on their part, had said that Archer made an unauthorised visit to his home on Monday, when the players should have travelled straight from Southampton to Manchester in their individual cars. That stop off in Brighton violated the bio-secure protocols in place.

He was subsequently left out of the playing XI for the ongoing second Test against the West Indies at Old Trafford. Archer is currently undergoing isolation for a period of five days during which he will have to go through two COVID-19 tests. If he is tested negative on both occasions, the self-isolation period will be lifted, with the quick bowler rejoining the side on July 21.

“I am extremely sorry for what I have done,” Archer had said. “I have put, not only myself, but the whole team and management in danger. I fully accept the consequences of my actions, and I want to sincerely apologise to everyone in the bio-secure bubble. “It deeply pains me to be missing the Test match, especially with the series poised. I feel like I have let both teams down, and again I am sorry.”
