CCC held their nerve against NCC to qualify for the final of the SLC Invitation T20, while Chilaw Marians overcame Ragama CC comfortably as they reached their second final during the 2019/20 domestic season.

Both semi-finals were worked off at the Marians Cricket Grounds in Katunayake with the final scheduled for Tuesday (21st January) at the SSC. The live telecast of the final will be available from 9.40 a.m. on Dialog TV Channel No. 16 and ThePapare.com

CCC vs NCC

CCC stumbled for the most of their innings but managed to crawl up to a fighting score of 144 all-out in their allotted 20 overs.

The explosive right-handed Malindu Maduranga was impressive at the top of the order racing to 38 once again but the team continued to lose wickets in the middle before Sri Lanka T20 star Wanindu Hasaranga showed his aptitude with the bat scoring 33 down the order.

Fast bowler Chamika Gunasekara was impressive with his variations as he picked up 4/23 along with his fast bowling partner who chipped with 2/33. Sachindu Colombage’s leg-spin was useful in the middle overs as he picked up 2/21.

NCC looked well on their way to victory as they reached 82/2 in the 13th over, but a mix-up between the pair – in Lahiru Udara(65) and Mahela Udawatte(23) – opened the door again for CCC. Udara went on to make a half-century after Udawatte was dismissed, but he ran himself out as NCC lost 52/6 in the last 45 balls of their innings.

Colombo Cricket Club 144 (20) Malindu Maduranga 38, Wanindu Hasaranga 33, Chamika Gunasekara 4/23, Sachindu Colombage 2/21, Dilesh Gunarathne 2/33,

Chilaw Marians vs Ragama CC

Lasith Croospulle’s sterling form continued as he led Chilaw Marians to the final with another controlled half-century. This was following his match-winning half-century against SSC in the quarter-final.

Udara Jayasundera’s bamboozling leg-spin accounted for four Marians wickets, but useful cameos from Kamindu Mendis(25) and Pulina Tharanga(33) made sure Marians posted a challenging 168/8.

Former Sri Lanka Test cap Jayasundera wasn’t done as he hit 35 at the top of the order for Ragama CC, but discipline with ball and in the field meant the Marians won by a comfortable 35 run margin.

Tharanga starred with his leg-spin too for the Marians capturing three scalps, as the champions of the SLC Invitation Limited Over Tournament 2019/20 reached another final.

Chilaw Marians Cricket Club 168/8 (20) Lasith Croospulle 67, Kamindu Mendis 25, Pulina Tharanga 33, Udara Jayasundera 4/16, Ishan Jayarathne 2/40
