Former Sri Lanka fast bowler Chaminda Vaas is set to make his coaching debut in the Indian Premier League in 2027, with the 52-year-old set to become the fast bowling coach of Delhi Capitals.
Vaas is expected to join the Delhi Capitals coaching staff alongside former India leg-spinner Amit Mishra, who is set to take charge as the franchise’s spin bowling coach.

The coaching setup is expected to be led by former India captain Sourav Ganguly as head coach, with former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh taking over as assistant coach.
One of Sri Lanka’s most successful fast bowlers, Vaas finished his international career with 355 wickets in Tests and 400 wickets in ODIs. He also featured in the IPL during its early years, representing Deccan Chargers in the first three seasons of the tournament from 2008 to 2010.
Vaas has gained extensive coaching experience since retiring from international cricket, with much of his work coming on the international circuit.
He has worked with the Sri Lanka men’s team across several coaching stints, including from 2012 to 2015, 2016 to 2017, briefly in 2021, and again in 2022. His 2021 stint ended after he resigned two days into his tenure following a dispute over his remuneration.
Vaas began his coaching career as a consultant with the New Zealand men’s team and later had a stint with Ireland during the 2016 ICC World Twenty20.
