Sri Lanka secured a historic ODI series victory in the West Indies after the third and final ODI at Sabina Park was washed out due to persistent rain, handing the visitors a 1-0 triumph in the three-match series.
Having registered a convincing win in the opening ODI, Sri Lanka entered the final game with an unassailable lead after the second ODI was also affected by weather. With rain preventing any play in the series decider, the visitors officially sealed the series and etched their names into the record books.
The triumph marks Sri Lanka’s first bilateral ODI series victory in the West Indies in 23 years. The last time Sri Lanka achieved the feat was in 2003 under the captaincy of Marvan Atapattu, when they emerged victorious 2-1 in a three-match series.

Before that, Sri Lanka’s only other bilateral ODI series success in the Caribbean came in 1996 under the leadership of Arjuna Ranatunga, with the visitors claiming a 1-0 series victory.
As a result, the series win under the captaincy of Kusal Mendis becomes only the third occasion in history that Sri Lanka have won a bilateral ODI series in the West Indies, further highlighting the significance of the achievement.
With the ODI leg of the tour now concluded, attention shifts to the shorter format as Sri Lanka prepare to take on West Indies in the T20I series. The first T20I between the two sides is scheduled to be played on 12th June at Sabina Park.
