India were crowned champions of the Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2026 after defeating Sri Lanka in the final played yesterday (13th September) in Dubai, securing their eighth Women’s Asia Cup title.
After winning the toss, India elected to bat first, while Sri Lanka made one change to their playing XI, bringing in Vishmi Gunarathne in place of Sanjana Kavindi.
India posted a formidable 183 runs for 5 wickets in their allotted 20 overs, with Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana leading the way with half-centuries to give their side a strong total.
In reply, Sri Lanka struggled to build momentum in the run chase and were eventually bowled out for 111 runs.
Skipper Chamari Athapaththu top scored for Sri Lanka with 36 runs off 32 balls, including 4 fours and 2 sixes, but the rest of the batting lineup failed to provide enough support as India’s bowling attack maintained control throughout the innings.
Left-arm spinner Shree Charani was the standout bowler for India, claiming 4 wickets for just 20 runs to spearhead the successful defence.
With the victory, India secured their eighth Women’s Asia Cup title, while Sri Lanka finished runners-up after an impressive campaign that saw them reach the final.
