Sri Sumangala College registered a convincing win over Moratu Maha Vidyalaya to clinch the 31st Annual Limited Overs Encounter between the sides, which was played today (31st March) at Tyrone Fernando International Cricket Stadium, Moratuwa.
Moratu Maha Vidyalaya Skipper Mahith Appuhami won the toss and invited Sri Sumangala College to have a bat first under the sunny skies in Moratuwa.
Half centurion in the 2-Day encounter, opener Duranka Silva, got sent back to the pavilion in the second ball of the day with a peach of a delivery by Sandeneth Yahampath. From there onwards, his partner Krishan Eranga steadied the ship for Sri Sumangala College by scoring a patient half century. Wicket keeper batter Kavindu Gayathra too contributed with a valuable 46 runs to put up a fighting total of 217.

Kanchana Nimshan and Isuru Fernando were the pick of the bowlers for Moratu Maha Vidyalaya by picking up 3 wickets apiece.
In reply, Moratu Maha Vidyalaya struggled to gain momentum in their innings. While a couple of Moratuwa batsmen got off to good starts, they failed to capitalise on them due to sharp fielding and accurate bowling from Sri Sumangala College. Duranka Silva, Rusith Jayawardene and Mevindu Kumarasiri chipped in with 2 wickets apiece.
