The 72nd Battle of the Golds between Moratu Vidyalaya, Moratuwa and Sri Sumangala College, Panadura commenced today (29th March) at De Soysa Stadium in Moratuwa.
After been put into bat first, the boys from Panadura managed to post a solid total – 282/8 on the board for their first innings before calling the declaration.
The opening batter Krishan Eranga (63), the middle order batters Vishwa Lahiru (52) and Kavindu Gayathra (84) stroked fine half-centuries to put their side on top in Day 1.
Sanjana Senevirathne and Nishitha Dulanjana who grabbed 2 wickets each were the pick of the bowlers for the Moralians.
In reply, Moratu Vidyalaya posted 23 runs for the loss of 1 wicket at the close of play on Day 1.
