Sri Lankan born Rushri Wijesundera in crushing win for USA

Top seeded Gozal Ainitdinova of Kazakhstan got the better out of Sri Lanka’s Adithya Karunaratne but the Sri Lankan born Rushri Wijesundera impressed once again at the Astoria Womens Futures Week 2 today(12). 

Ainitdinova dominated the first set and cruised to a 6-4 win while Karunaratne contributed with plenty of unforced errors.

Karunaratne played with a lot of heart in the second set giving the top seed Ainitdinova a good run before eventually losing out with the same score line in the second set.

It was a good day out for the Sri Lankan born Rushri Wijesundera (representing the USA) though, as she beat Sebastiani LEON of Mexico in straight sets 6-0,6-3.

In other results, Dan Ni WANG of China went down to Aldila SUTJIADI of Indonesia while Linnea MALMQVIST of Sweden beat Tamara BARAD ITZHAKI of Israel.

Ramya NATARAJAN of India awarded her match to Tamara CUROVIC of Serbia when she was forced to retire hurt midway through the first set. NATARAJAN was the only Indian to lose out today before Prerna BHAMBRI, Nidhi CHILUMULA, Zeel DESAI and Rutuja BHOSALE(India) all recorded straight set wins.

The other players to progress today were Yexin MA of China, Naomi TATKA of Hungary, Andrea KA of Cambodia and Barbora MIKLOVA of the Czech Republic.
