Sri Lanka Women’s Junior Tennis Team crowned champions of Billie Jean King Cup Junior Pre-Qualifying tournament at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association Courts, Colombo on 25th Februay.
Ivanka Samarasinghe and Dinara de Silva registered a convincing win (2-0) over Kyrgyzstan in the final worked off today.
Samarasinghe defeated Sezim Sagynbaeva with scores of 6-2, 6-0, while De Silva beat Safina Khabibrakhmanova with scores of 6-4, 6-4 in the Women’s Singles event to clinch the championship.
With this win, Sri Lanka managed to earn a spot in the final qualifying round which will be held in Kazakhstan in May.
Sri Lanka Women’s Junior Tennis Team comprised of Ivanka Samarasinghe, Dinara De Silva, Oneli Samarawickrama and Arushi Thomas and was coached by Meshal Sinnen.
The boys team finished 7th in the tournament as they defeated Saudi Arabia in a playoff game played today but were unable to qualify for the next round.
