S. Thomas’ outclass De Mazenod to reach the semi-finals

S. Thomas’ College, Mt Lavinia recorded an effortless first innings win over De Mazenod College, Kandana to book their semi-final spot in the ongoing Singer U-15 Cricket tournament.

S Thomas’ were at 123/2 going into stumps on day 1 requiring 83 more to get a first innings lead. The young Thomians were in total control throughout the second day as they amassed 365 for the loss of 7 wickets in 85 overs. Mohamad Ishaq added few more runs to his overnight score before being dismissed for 68. Malithra Wimalasooriya and Kishan Munasinghe chipped in with 42 and 31 respectively.

Shalin de Mel and Gevin Botheju combined to build a fabulous partnership of 159 runs for the 6th wicket as the game totally slipped away from De Mazenod. Shalin De Mel clobbered an astounding 74 ball 100 with 17 fours and 2 sixes while Gevin struck a superb knock of 68. Mark Mathayas was the only bowler to taste some success as he bagged 3 wickets for 87 runs.

Earlier, De Mazenod were put on to bat and managed to post 205 before being bowled out.  Shenal De Morayaz stroked his way to a fifty and Sihina Sithumina remained unbeaten at 43. Delmin Rathnayake had a good time with the ball bagging 4 wickets for 64 runs and was well supported by Dineth Wanniarachchi who picked 2 for 14

S.Thomas’ College joins St. Sebastian’s College and Prince of Wales College as the third semi-finalist, while Holy Cross College Kalutara and Nalanda College Colomboare set to battle it out for the fourth spot.
