Hasitha Priyankara scored a brace as New Youngs defeated Police SC 3-1 in round one of the Dialog Champions League match played at the Police Park.
The more experienced lads of Police SC seemed to be completely off their game giving their underdog rivals the opportunity they needed to counter attack.
Majority of ball possession was sealed by New Youngs and even when Police was on the attack, they weren’t the fierce force one expects out of the team. From their passing to control to offense and even defense they were sloppy and distracted throughout the 90 minutes.
The visitors locked in their first goal with a beautiful header confidently struck by Hasitha Priyankara in the 8th minute building momentum early on. This should have been the wakeup call for Police but they showed no improvement and continued to play a poorly constructed game.

The rest of the half was rather quiet although New Youngs tried to extend their lead which wasn’t successful till the 32nd minute when Ankhama George managed to play an incredible solo act to pass all of four defenders and the goalkeeper with a little trickery to easily roll in the second goal of the match.

It was disappointing to see no change in game strategy or energy in the Police team when they returned for the final half.
They were punished well for it when Priyankara stepped up to score the third and final goal for the New Youngs with an easy one-two, passing the goalkeeper to find the back of the net.
Police defense was asleep on the job this evening as they let the most signature plays and trickery get past them with no effort.
After playing a disastrous 90 minutes, Police skipper Sampath Pathirana headed in a floozy in the last minute of added time.
Referee blew the match to an end with a very fulfilling win for the New Youngs boys.
