Here’s a brief look into the few matches which ended today in the Singer U19 Division I cricket tournament.

St Peter’s College VS Trinity College

Miflal Ameen’s and Chathura Obeysekara’s spin bowling helped St Peter’s secure first innings points against Trinity College at the Asgiriya Stadium. Trinity resumed play with 53 runs on board and 8 wickets in hand. The early loss of Shanmuganathan Shanogeeth for 27 proved costly as the Trinity batters failed to bat for long. Ameen and Chathura bagged four wickets each and cleaned up the up country giants for just 184 runs in 61 overs.

The Peterites came in to bat in the second session but they couldn’t bat out the rest of the day thanks to a brilliant bowling spell by Shanogeeth. His five-fer helped Trinity bundle out the visitors for just 115 runs in the second innings. Salitha Fernando scored a quick fire 54 for the Peterites. When bad light stopped play on the 2nd day, Trinity College were 7 for 2 in 2 overs.

On day 1, St Peter’s posted 219 runs with Skipper Lakshina Rodrigo top scoring with 91.


President’s College VS De Mazenod College

President’s College registered an easy first innings victory against De Mazenod College in their Group D encounter today. The Mazedonians were in a spot of bother at 64 for 4 yesterday and matters got worst for them in the morning session. Pramuka Gayeshan’s five-for erased all hopes of a recovery for De Mazenod as they were bowled out for 117 in 44.3 overs.

President’s College enforced the follow on but this time around De Mazenod put up a much better performance with the bat. It was mainly due to an outstanding knock by captain Krishan Sanjula who scored 111 for the boys from Kandana. The limelight was stolen from the centurion by Pramuka Gayeshan who completed a ten wicket haul after another five-fer in the second innings for President’s College.

Early on in the game, President’s College posted 263 for their first innings with Hashan Priyadarshana top scoring with a knock of 99.

Wesley College VS St Benedict’s College

Bens secured first innings points in a tight match against Wesley College today. This clash in Group B was shifted towards St Benedict’s after the first day’s play but thanks to an outstanding bowling spell by Ruchika Dangalla things almost turned around for Wesley.  The Bens resumed play on 85 for 1 but they were taken by storm in the morning session as they were bowled out for just 191 runs.  Ruchika Dangalla ended with figures of 8 for 39. Wesley in their second innings were 113 for 6 at stumps on Day 2.

Early on in the game, Maheesh Theekshana’s five-for helped Bens to bundle out Wesley for just 154 in their first innings.

Zahira College VS Dharmasoka College

Dharmasoka secured first innings points against Zahira College after a brilliant performance with the bat. Dharmasoka resumed day 2 on 24 for 1 and they went on to score 337 in 70.3 overs. Right-handed Kaveesh Kumara top scored with 90 and Dinuka Dilshan scored a valuable 85 for the boys from down south. Zahira in their second innings were 164 for 3 at stumps with captain Sajith Sameera unbeaten on 113.

Early on in the game Zahira College posted 241 for their first innings with U15 player Mohammad Shamas scoring 88 runs.
