Day one of the Bayleys National Sevens drew to a close today at Rotorua International stadium as Sudarshana Muthuthanthri’s Auckland finished with two wins out of three on day one.

In the first game for Auckland (4th of the day), the blue and whites met mighty Canterbury.

Canterbury were held scoreless as Auckland scored 19 points to secure their first win of the day, in the first game for the team.

Game two for them saw Auckland thump Mid Canterbury. This game was a simpler task for Auckland as they scored 39 points but will be disappointed due to giving 19 Points away.

With two wins under their belt, and confidence high, the final game saw Auckland take on Bay of Plenty. This was a much greater task and the Auckland lads were unlucky as the side from the Bay won 24-14 to bring an end to a dramatic day of rugby for Mutu and his Auckland side.

Day two is scheduled to kick off tomorrow 14th January as Auckland play the first of four quarter finals against Waikato at 11:30 local (NZ) time.
