Mahamaya Vidyartha shine at Central Province Table Tennis Championship

Mahamaya Girls’ College Kandy won the both U19 and U15 Girls Championships and Vidyartha College Kandy Won the U19 Championship and U15 Runner Up Awards in the Central Province Table tennis championship held at Jagath Rajapaksha International Table tennis stadium Doluwa on 15th and 16th June 2016.

Vidyartha college Kandy met Dharmaraja College Kandy In the Boys U19 finals. Vidyartha college was led by the international Udaya Ranasinghe who was awarded as the most outstanding sportsman at the Milo Schools Colours Awards. There were no surprises as Vidyartha finished the game in first round by beating Dharmaraja College Kandy when the points were 3-0. St.Anthonys College Kandy overcame team Trinity in the 3rd place decider.

The Boys U15 finals was between Kingswood College Kandy and Vidyartha College Kandy. Kingswood team was led by Chanduupa Alahakoon who is at the top of Rankings in their age category. Results of this were 3-1 and Kingswood won the championship. Dharmaraja College Kandy placed 3rd in this category.

The U19 Girls finals happened between Mahamaya girls college and Kandy Girls High School. Mahamaya girls ended the game in the first rounds by beating High School 3-0. Hillwood College won the 3rd in this category.

In the junior category the U15 girls finals was an exciting game because it extended up to all 5 rounds. After all 5 rounds Mahamaya Girls college overcame Good Shepherd Convent. The final score was 3-2. Kandy Girls High School were the 3rd in this category.

All the above mentioned 12 teams will represent central province in all island National Schools Table Tennis Championship to be held on September at the same venue.

There were 18 girls teams and 14 boys teams taking part in this event and tournament was organized by Central Province Education Office
