Dulith steers S. Thomas’ to semis

S. Thomas’ College won the Singer U19 cricket limited overs quarter-final against Gurukula College played today at St. Peter’s grounds.

Skipper Dellon Peiris won the toss and opted to bat first on a batting friendly surface at Bambalapitiya.

Left-hander Dulith Gunarathne smashed 94 runs to guide the Thomians to a fighting 244 runs along with Kishan Munasinghe who chipped in with a handy 44. They got bowled out in the 49th over as Pruthuve Rusara claimed 4 scalps for the lads from Kelaniya.

In reply, Gurukula needed 245 to win to have semi-final hopes in the U19 limited over competition. The Kelaniya boys were troubled by Dilmin Ratnayake who came with a match winning performance to dismantle the batsmen single handedly. He got 5 for 39 and knocked over Gurukula lads for a disappointing 146 all out to book a place in the semi-finals.
