Speaking to media today, New Zealand Cricket chief executive David White confirmed the postponement of the WHITE FERNS visit to Sri Lanka, which was scheduled to start later this month (April).

“This situation is extremely disappointing for everyone involved in sport but, given the bigger picture, and the terrible toll COVID-19 is taking worldwide, we need to look after not only our people but the greater community good,” said Mr. White.

The series was supposed to be part of the ongoing ICC women’s ODI championship 2017-20 as both teams are due to play their last 3 ODIs of the competition.

The result of this series would not have mattered as Sri Lanka are already out of contention for an automatic qualification spot for 2021 Women’s world cup while New Zealand does possess an automatic qualification spot by default as the host.

This is the second women’s fixture that will be under clouds due to the COVID-19 pandemic involving Sri Lanka as the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier which is scheduled to take place in Sri Lanka between 3-19 July is also being monitored and kept under review.
