In a celebration of Milo’s run with Sri Lanka Schools Swimming, as its sponsor for 25 long years, a media conference revealed exciting plans for the upcoming 45th Sri Lanka Schools All Island Swimming Championship which is set to splash on the 6th June at the iconic Sugathadasa Indoor Swimming Complex.

While the swimmers take the pool for 5 consecutive days this year, the divers will compete on the 7th and 8th for their glory as  Nestle Milo merge with the Sri Lanka Schools Aquatic Sports Association once again for another exciting edition.

This years’ tournament will include 140 individual events and 24 relays totaling to a grand 160 events to be carried out within the course. Participation can be expected from eight of the provinces, which is a first of its kind for the tournament, with the exclusion of the Northern province.

Proceedings will kick off with the under 9 juniors: and the under 19 senior swimmers will compete in the grand finale.

A total of 31 championship trophies are arranged to be awarded to the winners of the 3065 participants registered. Mahamaya Girls School, Kandy will step into this year’s tournament as 19-time consecutive champions and will do all in their power to continue their reign.

The highlight of this years’ games will be the ‘Legends Relay Carnival’ organized in honour of the 25 successful years of the Milo sponsorship. 16 swimming legends who were National and International representatives of Sri Lanka will compete in a relay carnival, which will be a first of its kind.

The swimming legends will compete in 4 teams – Milo Whales led by L.V Fernando, Milo Seals led by Mahi Chandralal, Milo Dolphins captained by Nishantha De Costa and finally the Milo Sharks captained by Julian Bolling.

A star-studded array of legends graced the occasion and were presented their t’shirts as the media and dignitaries present were taken back to their glory days which were articulated by some of the speakers at the event.

The media conference also saw the unveiling of a special logo in celebration of the occasion. A cake was cut to add to the festivities as the background music cried out ‘you raised me up so I can stand on mountains’ fittingly signifying Milo’s staunch and unbending support for Swimming in Sri Lanka.
