Four giants in Schools Tennis are locked in for the Cup Finals of the U17 All Island Interschool Tennis Tournament 2018, scheduled to kick off tomorrow, 03rd July at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association.

The two semifinals worked off today for the cup and plate championships in the U17 category, locked in Royal College facing St. Peter’s in the Boys, and Bishop’s College taking on rivals Ladies’ for the Girls Cup.

Royal College took on St. Sebastian’s College A team in the Cup semifinals. With a convincing win of the first three rubbers, Royal cruised through to book the first spot in the final.

Meanwhile, in the 2nd semifinal, St. Peter’s College was made to sweat by the boys from Ananda as they pushed the Bamba boys to the brink. However, St. Peter’s was able to pull themselves out of the hole winning the tie by one rubber, 3 – 2 to advance to the final phase.

The consolation tie, played for 3rd place was a one-sided affair with Ananda College beating St. Sebastian’s College in 3 straight rubbers. 

Meanwhile, the Boys U17 Plate final also took place today between D S Senanayake College and St. Joseph’s College Colombo. The Josephians’ wasted no time in clinching the Plate title 3 rubbers to 0.

Boys U17 Cup Final – Royal College vs St. Peter’s College (4th July)

In the Girls U19 category, Bishop’s College and Ladies’ College qualified for the finals with unblemished records in their semifinal ties. Bishop’s College was up against Hillwood College, Kandy and won three straight rubbers consecutively to book a spot in the final.

In Group B, Ladies’ College had similar winnings, beating St. Bridget’s 3 – 0 to advance to the final. 

The U19 Plate championship was clinched by Visakha Vidyalaya when they bested Holy Family Convent 3-1 in the Plate Final.

The 3rd place playoff in the Girls U19 category will be worked off between Musaeus College and Methodist College, tomorrow.
