Cape Town – Proteas ODI skipper AB de Villiers has bemoaned his side’s inconsistency after they lost the second ODI to Sri Lanka in Pallekele on Wednesday.
The South Africans had dominated the first ODI in Colombo last Sunday when they won by 75 runs.
However, they came badly unstuck in the second game, losing by 87 runs when chasing a winning target of 268.
“It’s never nice to win one and then lose one – you look like an inconsistent team,” De Villiers told ESPNcricinfo’s Firdose Moonda.
“We should have got closer. I don’t like us to lose not being in the game the last 10 or so overs.”
South Africa lost five wickets for 26 runs in the middle of their innings to crash from 101 for 2 to 127 for 7 – which effectively ended the game as a contest.
De Villiers admitted it was a tough wicket to bat on, especially batting second, but said they won’t make any excuses.
The final game of the three-game series will be played in Hambantota on Saturday. It will be a day game, like the first one in Colombo.
