Nail-biting finish at the 5th Battle of the Golds in Qatar

Exciting cricket from the Old Mahanamians and Senanayakians produced two nail-biting matches at the 5th “Battle of the Golds in Qatar” Cricket encounter held on 29th March 2019 at the Mesaieed grounds.

Old Mahanamians clinch the Mini Battle Trophy

The Old Senanayakians won the toss and invited the Old Mahanamians to bat first in the 10 over encounter. Mahanama College lost both their openers in the third over for 38 runs. Nevertheless, all-rounder Nisal Perera scored 20 useful runs including two massive sixes which helped the Old Mahanamians post 116 for 6 wickets. Chamika was impressive with the ball for the Senanayakians and he finished his two overs with figures of 24/2.

Chasing a target of 116, the Senanayakians kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Right-handed batsman Yohan scored 4 consecutive sixes in the 9th over to keep D S Senanayake College alive. However, Mahanama Skipper Dayan Perera grabbed his wicket to defend 13 runs in the final over as Mahanama College won by 4 runs.

D S Senanayake College claim 1st XI encounter With an experienced bowling line up, Mahanama College backed themselves to regain the title which they surrendered in the last 3 years. The Senanayakians on the other hand, fielding a relatively stronger side, with four seasoned campaigners in their ranks, had different ideas.

Play commenced immediately after the singing of both college songs and the national anthem.

Mahanama College skipper won the toss and had no second thoughts in taking first lease of the wicket.
