4th consecutive Zahira College Past 1st XI Cricketers’ encounter

Past 1st XI cricketers’ Association of Zahira College is all set to launch their 4th Annual CRICKET ENCOUNTER in style which is scheduled to be played on Saturday 11th August, at Moors SC grounds. The uniquely designed event has attracted more than 150 Past cricketers to share their dressing room with their former team mates enabling them to bring back the best memories.

This encounter is designed to promote fellowship of the cricket fraternity of the Old Boys and there is fair representation of all age groups spanning teams which represented the college in the 60’s, 80’s, 90’s. It gets highly competitive with the inclusion of youngsters representing almost all the Team’s post year 2000.

Twelve teams are scheduled to participate in this years event with 8 players per side.

Each innings will span 5 overs which will included 18-22 games. It will also be contested in 2 categories over 35 and under 35.

The outgoing President of PCA, Mazhar Zuhair believes that Zairians’ have always been passionate sportsmen, and is confident that they can support college to re-ignite it’s cricket standards like in the mid 80’s and 90’s where Zahira regularly featured amongst the top 5 schools in rankings.

“In fact, I believe this Cricket encounter is happening at the right time where scores of past cricketers are getting together to show support and solidarity to the college team which had one of the most challenging seasons last year. We are also thrilled to have many old boys flying in from across the world to be a part of this glamorous event” says Mazhar.

Project Chairman Shiham Zuhair is thrilled with the support and encouragement he has been getting from the organizing committee and from members and especially from sponsors. Mobil Lubricants of McLaren’s Group has come forward as the principal sponsor while Home Depot, Brand point and Expo Lanka (EFL) are the co-sponsor this event.
