Zahira Mini Rugby Carnival

The annual event of Zahira College mini rugby carnival will kick off for the third consecutive year on 20th September 2014 at Zahira Grounds from 8.30 a.m. onwards.

The Principal of Zahira College Mr. Trizviiy Marikkar addressed the media gathering “We are  one of the oldest schools that plays rugby in Sri Lanka, this mini rugby carnival is a great prospect to develop the grassroots rugby in the College as well as in the country. “ He further extended his appreciation to the president of Zahira Old Boys Rugby Association (ZOBRA) Mr. M.M.K. Namiz for organizing this carnival. 

The carnival will played in three categories under 10, under 12 and under 14 respectively. However, only under 14 teams will be crowned as cup, plate and bowl champions and the below age categories will play friendlies. 

Last year D.S. Senanayake College won the cup category and Science College became the runner-up. The defending champions are drawn  in pool C along with the host Zahira and St. Benedicts. Moreover, CWW Kannangara won the plate whilst St. Benedicts won the bowl category in under 14 last year.

M.Z.M.Anver & Sons are the main sponsors for this event and Lanka hospitals will be the medical partners.
