Zahira College Colombo registered a morale-boosting first innings win over table toppers, St. Aloysius College, Galle in their drawn Singer-Cup U19 Division 1 tournament Group C game which concluded today on Christmas Day at Zahira College grounds.

Resuming the final and second day, Zahira College were looking down the barrel as they were 67 for 5. Hashim Hussain rose to the occasion with an unbeaten fifty along with Mohmamad Shamaz who also stroked a vital half-century to guide the hosts over the winning line.

Right arm off-spinner and Sri Lanka U19 player Ravindu Sanjana, Niduka Malsith and Vishva Vilochana took 3 wickets each for the visitors as the boys from Maradana were bowled out for 170 in reply to the St. Aloysius’ first innings score of 165.

In the second essay, Zahira College right arm off-spinner Sajith Sameera was the most impressive bowler claiming 3 scalps to go with his 5 wicket haul in the first innings. His efforts kept the visitors to a modest 126 for 9 at stumps on day two. Opening batsman Gimhana Ashirwada top scored with a fine 32.

St. Aloysius College – 165 all out in 68.5 overs: Pasindu Nanayakkara 64, Gimhana Ashirwada 27, Sajith Sameera 5/42.
