Waragoda and Sigera excel for Ananda in drawn game

Ananda College Colombo took major honours against Dharmashoka College Ambalangoda in their Singer Cup U19 Division 1 tournament encounter which concluded at Ananda Mawatha today.

Ananda College resuming day two on 217 for 7, posted a formidable first innings total of 260 in their 1st innings leaving the Ambalangoda boys to work hard for a draw on day two. Lanky right-handed middle order batsman Supun Waragoda was unstoppable as he reached triple figures for the hosts, Lasith Kumara was the pick of the bowlers bagging 3 for 44 for the Sokians.

The lads from Ambalangoda batted 89 overs to get 246 and ensured a draw against the mighty Anandians. Nimesh Mendis accumulated 79 crucial runs while his team-mates Subash Lasanga and Harshajith Rushan scored useful sixties. Left arm spinner Ashel Sigera claimed a five wicket haul as he finished with a match-bag of 9 for 44, while U19 youth off spinner Sammu Ashan bagged 3 wickets for 82 runs.

Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda – 156 all out in 44.2 overs: Kaveesh Kumara 48, Harshajith Rushan 31, Ravindu Rashantha 20, Ashel Sigera 4/12, Sammu Ashan 3/64.

Ananda College, Colombo – 260 for 8 declared in 69.1 overs: Supun Waragoda 100, Ashel Sigera 91, Lasith Kumara 3/44, Ushan Imantha 2/80.

Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda – 246 all out in 89.1 overs: Nimesh Mendis 79, Harshajith Rushan 67, Subash Lasanga 62, Sammu Ashan 3/82, Ashel Sigera 5/32.

Result – Ananda College won on 1st innings


 

S.Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia  vs Anuradhapura Central College

Left-arm spin duo Pavith Ratnayaka and Dellon Pieris shone with the ball as S. Thomas’ College beat Anuradhapura Central College by an innings & 94 runs in their Group C encounter played at Mount Lavinia today.

Resuming on 106 for 9, Anuradhapura Central was bowled out without any addition to the total as the school by the sea enforced the follow on. The visitors were bundled out yet again, for just 61 runs as they lasted only 33 overs in their second innings. Pavith Ratnayake and Dellon Pieris took six-wicket match-bags for the game to dismantle the visitors before lunch on day two.

S.Thomas’ College – 261 all out in 65.1 overs: Dulith Gunarathne 82, Romesh Nallapperuma 69, Ravindu Kodithuvakku 28, Ravintha Prabashwara 7/76, Dananjaya Thamvita 2/28.

Anuradhapura Central– 106 all out in 29.1overs: Dilshan Lakshitha 27, Maduranga Chandrarathne 25*, Kalana Perera 3/16, Dinura Gunawardana 2/12, Dellon Peiris 2/36, Ishen Perera 2/5.

Anuradhapura Central (2nd innings F/O) – 61 all out in 33.1 overs: Savindu Sethsara 21, Pavith Rathnayake 5/23, Dellon Pieris 4/19.

Result – S. Thomas’ College won by an innings & 94 runs.


St. Aloysius’ College Galle vs Zahira College Colombo

St. Aloysius College Galle dominated day one against Zahira College Colombo in their Group C encounter which commenced today at Zahira grounds in Maradana.

The visiting skipper Navindu Nirmal won the toss and opted to bat first. The Aloysians batted slowly and steadily to get a below par 165 in 68.5 overs. Pasindu Nanayakkara scored a vital 67, while off-spinning Captain Sajth Sameera ripped through the Aloysius’ batting line up taking 5 for 42.

In reply, the hosts were struggling on 67 for 5 in 24 overs. Niduka Malsith captured 3 wickets for 24.

The match will continue for day two tomorrow
