Sri Lankan speedster Yupun Abeykoon competed in the Men’s 100m Heats at the World Athletics Championship 2022 (Oregon 2022) earlier today (16th) in Oregon, United States.

Abeykoon ran in Heat 3 of the event in lane number 1 and managed to record a timing of 10.19s (+0.6m/s) securing 5th place. Unfortunately, the performance was not enough to secure the Sri Lankan a spot in the semifinals.

World Indoor Gold Medalist Trayvon Bromell of United States won the heat with 9.89s while US compatriot Fred Kerley turned up big time with a 9.79s to register the best time of the all 7 heats.

The semifinals of the 100m event will be held tomorrow (17th July) at 6.30am Sri Lanka Time while the finals will be worked off at 8.20am on the same day.

Apart from Abeykoon, another two Sri Lankan athletes, Nilani Rathnayaka (3000m Steeple Chase) and Gayanthika Abeyrathne (800m) will be competing in the World event.
