Fifteen Sri Lankans shortlisted for WPL draft

Fifteen Sri Lankan players have been shortlisted for the inaugural Women’s Premier League auction set to take place at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai on February 13th.

The following players will appear in the draft

Chamari Athapatthu, Anushka Sanjeewani, Inoka Ranaweera, Nilakshi de Silva, Harshitha Samarawickrama, Vishmi Gunaratne, Hasini Perera, Malsha Shehani, Kaveesha Dilhari, Oshadi Ranasinghe, Achini Kulasuriya, Udeshika Prabodani, Tharika Sewwandi, Sugandika Dasanayake, Inoshi Fernando

 All players have registered at a base price of 30 lakhs INR, which is approximately 13 million Sri Lankan rupees.

A total of 409 players have been shortlisted for the draft from a whopping 1525 who registered. 246 Indian players and 163 overseas players, including 8 from Associate teams, make up the 409. Teams will be allowed to feature 5 overseas players in the playing XI (as opposed to 4 in the IPL), IF 1 of them is from an associate nation. Reports suggest a maximum of 90 players will be drafted (60 Indian, 30 Overseas).

Among those in the highest bracket of 50L INR are overseas all-rounders Sophie Devine (NZ), Ellyse Perry (AUS), Nat Sciver (ENG), Deandra Dottin (WI), Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana.

The Inaugural Women’s Premier League is set to be played from the 4th – 26th of March at the DY Patil and Brabourne Stadiums in Mumbai. The coaching staff for two franchises have already been announced with recently retired Rachel Haynes and Sydney Sixers and Southern Brave Coach Charlotte Edwards set to lead the Gujarat and Mumbai franchises respectively.
