Dilani Manodara and Sadani Dedduwakumara were the stars on matchday 2 of the Women’s Inter-Club Division I 50-over Cricket Tournament. Air Force A, Army A, Navy and Chilaw Marians all bagged wins today, against Air Force B, Army B, Seenigama CC and Colts CC respectively.

Chilaw Marians vs Colts CC at Colts Grounds

Chilaw Marians were anything but convincing with the bat, after being sent in. by Colts CC skipper A D Janakathimala, being bowled out for 210. However, their bowling made up for it against a hapless Colts CC batting unit, to help them claim a comfortable win in the end, allowing just 2 of the opposition batters to get t double figures.

Brief Scores

Chilaw Marians 210 (49.3) Sanduni Nisansala 39*, Vishmi Gunaratne 36, Dulanga Dissanayake 3/19, Nimasha Madushani 2/29

Colts CC 106 (34.2) Shikari de Silva 24, Dulanga Dissanayake 23, Chamari Athapaththu 3/3, Janadi Anali 2/15

Result – Chilaw Marians won by 97 runs

Seenigama CC vs Navy SC at MCC, Hikkaduwa

Riding high from their win against Chilaw Marians last week, Seenigama CC were brought crashing to earth by the defending champs Navy SC earlier today. Navy skipper Harshitha Samarawickrama won the toss and opted to field first and her bowlers did the rest, reducing the hosts to 43/5 at the end of the 11th over and eventually bowling them out for 112. All the Navy bowlers chipped in with wickets, but the two most crucial came off good fielding efforts as two key all-rounders, Seenigama skipper Kavisha Dilhari and Sachini Nisansala were run-out.

Navy chased down the target with ease, going at over 5 runs an over.

Brief Scores

Seenigama CC 112 (35.4) Piumi Wathsala 31, Vihara Sewwandi 20, Udeshika Prabodhani 2/20, Rashmi Silva 2/21

Navy SC 114/2 (22) Hasini Perera 55*, Hansima Karunaratne 21, Kavisha Dilahari 1/20, Sulesha Sathsarani 1/21

Result – Navy SC won by 8 wickets

Army SC A vs Army SC B at Army Grounds, Panagoda

Army A unsurprisingly had no trouble dispatching Army B in Panagoda to claim their 2nd win of the tournament quite comprehensively. Army B started off brilliantly with the ball after being asked to field, picking up Army A’s opener Roshini Perera and one drop batter Anushka Sanjeewani within the 1st two overs, reducing them to 1 for 2.

A 93-run partnership between Imalka Mendis and Niluka Kushanthi, pulled Army A out of trouble before in form national all-rounder skipper Nilakshi de Silva and Sakunthala de Silva provided the late drive to push Army to 265 at the end of their 50 overs.

Army B’s chase never really took off as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals and struggled to keep up with the required rate. Off-spinner Ganesha Chamari caused problems once again, bagging 4 wickets to follow her 5-wicket haul on matchday 1 last week.

Brief Scores

Army A 265/4 (50) Imalka Mendis 88, Nilakshi de Silva 81*, Madhara Samarakoon 1/18

Army B 70 (35.1) Sachini de Silva 14, Ganesha Chamari 4/8, Achini Kulasuriya 2/17

Result – Army A won by 195 runs

Air Force A vs Air Force B at Air Force Grounds, Katunayake

It was another one-sided affair as Air Force A dominated their counterparts, Air Force B in a 211-run thrashing. Air Force A won the toss and were on the backfoot immediately, losing former national opener Yashoda Mendis for 0 off the first delivery of the game. However, a

strong middle-order performance led by veteran wicket-keeper batter Dilani Manodara and Malsha Shehani saw them post an imposing 286/9 in their 50 overs. Off-spinner Sadani Dedduwakumara was brilliant with the ball, claiming the only 5-fer of the day, but reeived little support from the other end as the Air Force B bowlers all went for plenty.

Similar to the previous game, the chase never got going, Malsha Shehani and Tharuka Shehani pciking up 3 wickets apiece to restrict Air Force B to just 75.

Brief Scores

Air Force A 286/9 (50) Dilani Manodara 92, Malsha Shehani 51, Sadani Dedduwakumara 5/42

Air Force B 75 (48.5) Hirushi Peiris 19, Tharuka Shehani 3/23, Malsha Shehani 3/3

Result – Air Force A won by 211 runs
