Sri Lanka have suffered a major setback in their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign, with star all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga ruled out of the tournament after scans confirmed a hamstring injury.
Hasaranga sustained the injury during Sri Lanka’s opening T20 World Cup match against Ireland, dealing a significant blow to the co-hosts’ title ambitions.

The wrist-spinner Dushan Hemantha is expected to be named as Hasaranga’s replacement, pending formal approval from the ICC. Hemantha has already joined the national team in Pallekele for practice sessions ahead of Sri Lanka’s next game against Oman.
