As a late change to the initial squad announced, wrist spinner Sachindu Colombage who was about to make his debut in the Emerging squad will be replaced due to injury by 22 years old Wanindu Hasaranga. Young all-rounder will only play the one-day series at Bangladesh and will return to Sri Lanka to take-part in the T20I leg of New Zealand tour.

The Charith Aslanka led Sri Lanka Emerging team won their last 50-over assignment which was held in South Africa, as they were crowned champions of the Tri-Series featuring the SA Emerging team as well as the University Sports South Africa XI. They lost the 2 match 4-day series 1-0.

Sri Lanka Emerging tour to Bangladesh fixtures released

“I want to thank Sri Lanka Cricket for this opportunity as this is our 2nd emerging tour in the year. We played really well in the South Africa. I have been given a good squad and hope to do well in Bangladesh too. Hopefully more and more players will be qualified for playing in the national team through this squad.” Asalanka said.

The head coach of the Emerging team, Chaminda Vaas said, “I always say that Emerging stage is a learning curve and they do lot of mistakes. South Africa tour was a really good one as our players played really well there. It’s going to be a tough tour to Bangladesh as they are playing good cricket and they have competent youngsters. So it will be a good challenge for our players to assess their skills there.”

This will be a great opportunity for the island’s emerging squad before the Asia Emerging teams’ tournament which will be hosted by Bangladesh in December.
