Day three of the final round in the Super Provincial four day cricket tournament 2018 concluded today with two matches being played at Dambulla and Hambanthota. Upul Tharanga’s blistering century and Roshen Silva’s classy half-ton were the highlights of the third day’s play.

Kandy vs Galle
The encounter between Galle and Kandy resumed today for day three at Hambanthota International Cricket Stadium. Galle openers Lahiru Milantha and Madawa Warnapura continued where they left off yesterday but the former was dismissed early for 17 runs.

Opener Madawa Warnapura made only 8 runs but faced 60 balls before he was trapped in front by right arm seamer Chamika Karunarathne. After the dismissals of the openers, Upul Tharanga and wicket keeper batsman Sadeera Samarawickrama put on a 51-run partnership for the third wicket before the latter was dismissed for 17 runs.
SLC Super Provincial Tournament – Kandy vs Galle
The final round encounter between Kandy and Galle..
Upul Tharanga who did not have a great run in the tournament, finally found his form with a blistering century. He made 103 runs off 111 balls at a strike rate of 92.79 including 14 fours and 2 massive sixes. Tharanga and Roshen Silva made a 99-run partnership for the fourth wicket which came in just 15.4 overs.
Bad light stopped play at 4.30pm thus umpires called stumps on day three. Roshen Silva, the leading run scorer of the tournament made 88 runs not out as the Galle team stretched their lead to a massive 538 runs at the end of the third day’s play.
Colombo vs Dambulla
The encounter between Colombo and Dambulla resumed today for day three at Dambulla International Cricket Stadium. Colombo openers Kaushal Silva and Shehan Jayasuriya continued their partnership as they put on a century stand for the first wicket.
Shehan Jayasuriya batted aggressively making 77 runs off 76 balls at a strike rate of 101.32. Jayasuriya’s innings included 11 fours and 1 massive six over the fence. Kaushal Silva made a patient knock of 38 runs off 85 balls as both the openers were dismissed by leg spinner Jeffery Vandersay.

Experienced campaigner Lahiru Thirimanne who made a century in the first game, built another valuable 80-run partnership with skipper Dinesh Chandimal for the fourth wicket. Left hander Thirimanne stroked a half-ton while Chandimal made a quick-fire 44 runs off 51 balls including 6 fours.
Wanidu Hasaranga who made 52 runs in the first innings, again stroked 52 runs off 66 balls in the second innings as the Colombo team was bowled out for 351 runs, setting a target of 203 runs for the home team to chase. Highly rated leg spinner Jeffrey Vandersay picked up 4 wickets for 101 runs for the hosts.

Chasing 203 runs to win, Dambulla openers Kusal Mendis and Dimuth Karunaratne got off to a solid start as they built an unbeaten 43-run partnership for the first wicket as umpires called stumps on day three. Dambulla requires another 160 runs to win the match with ten wickets in-hand.
