The 23-year old young Sri Lankan speedster who is yet to earn his national callup, managed to win an IPL deal as Sunrisers Hyderabad snatched him on Day 2 of the IPL Mega Auction held today (25th November) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Malinga was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad at the price of INR 1.20 Crore (Equivalent to LKR 4.14 Crore).
Three more Sri Lankans managed to win successful bids at the auction today. The experienced seamer Dushmantha Chameera was sold to Delhi Capitals for INR 75 Lakhs (Equivalent to LKR 2.58 Crore).
The Sri Lankan slinger Nuwan Thushara also got a bid worth INR 1.60 Crore from Royal Challengers Bengaluru (Equivalent to LKR 5.52 Crore). Sri Lankan run-machine Kamindu Mendis also sealed an IPL deal as Sunrisers Hyderabad snapped up him for INR 75 Lakhs (Equivalent to LKR 2.58 Crore).

The day 1 of the Auction saw two Sri Lankans sold to Rajasthan Royals. Wanindu Hasaranga was picked by Royals for INR 5.25 Crore (Equivalent to LKR 18.09 Crore) while his spin partner Maheesh Theekshana sealed a deal worth INR 4.40 Crore (Equivalent to LKR 15.16 Crore).
With Sri Lankan speedster Matheesha Pathirana already had been retained by Chennai Super Kings for INR 13 Crore (Equivalent to LKR 44.89 Crore) ahead of the Mega Auction, Sri Lanka will have seven players featuring in the Indian Premier League 2025.
