A media conference was held today at the Sri Lanka Cricket Headquarters Maitland crescent to introduce the main sponsor of the event to the media.

The Super 4’s T20 tournament which began last year has gained popularity with this year’s edition having aroused keen spectator interest.

The head table of this media conference comprised of, Lahiru Thirimanne, Captain of the Udarata Rulers, Lasith Malinga, Captain of the Southern Express, Kiran Redkar, CEO Ultratech cement India, Ajith Jayasekara, Tournament Director, Angelo Mathews, Captain of the western Troopers and Dinesh Chandimal, and Captain of the Yaal Blazers.

First to address the gathering was Mr.Ajith Jayasekara the tournament Director of the Ultratech Super 4’s Tournament. He took the opportunity to thank Ultratech cement for coming forward to sponsor this event for the 2nd consecutive year. “They gave a boost to Sri Lanka Cricket in taking forward the sport in the country by giving us the support and the financial backing” stressing on the importance and foundation laid by the this sponsorship. Finally he thanked all the Captains and players for taking part in this year’s tournament making it a glamorous one.

The CEO of Ultratech Cement India said “We got fascinated and thought this would be a good entryway to Sri Lanka Cricket when this proposal came up last year”. On the reason behind sponsoring this event Mr. Redkar said “this provides an opportunity for budding cricketers to play and expose themselves to play with senior national players, so we saw this as a worthy cause and thought of joining hands with SLC”.

He thanked Sri Lanka Cricket for inviting them to sponsor this event for the second year running and wished the two captains and players for the finals which is to be played today.

After a washed out tournament thus far, The Udarata Rulers led by Lahiru Thirimanne will face off Lasith Malinga’s Southern Express in the final today at the Singhalese Sports club grounds commencing at 10 a.m. As an exciting display of cricket could be expected with big names competing against each other the SSC will be the place to be as a prep up to the upcoming Sri Lanka – South Africa series.
