U23 Cricket – Colts and Tamil Union comeback to record outright wins

Colts Cricket Club, Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club played exciting brand of cricket to register outright wins over Moors Sports Club and Navy Sports Club as the week 1 of the SLC under 23 division one tournament winded up on Tuesday.

 

Colts CC vs Moors SC

Colts Cricket Club recorded a stunning five-wicket win over Moors Sports Club in an exciting game at Colts grounds. 

19-year old Avishka Fernando and Aruna Dharmasena scored valuable half centuries as the hosts’ chased down a target of 231 in the fourth innings. Wicket-keeper batsman Vishad Randika scored 67 helping Colts to secure a 61-run lead in the first innings which set the platform for Colts.

Moors, however posted a strong reply scoring 290 in the second innings inspired by half centuries from Dilshan Ranasinghe and Yasoda Lanka. Former Sebastian off spinner Sangeeth Cooray put up a noteworthy performance for the visitors as he bagged 9/95 in the first innings.

Moors – 189 all out in 36.3 overs: Shanuka Dulaj 51, Imraz Rassi 29, Chirath Mapatuna 2/45, Priyamal Perera 2/18, Minhaj Jaleel 2/08.

Colts – 250 all out in 65.2 overs: Vishad Randika 67, Minhaj Jaleel 39, Priyamal Perera 30, Sangeeth Cooray 9/95. 

Moors (2nd inn) – 290 all out in 84.4 overs: Dilshan Ranasinghe 57, Yasoda Lanka 57, Chirath Mapatuna 3/110, Priyamal Perera 2/74.

Colts (2nd inn) – 233/5 in 52.1 overs: Avishka Fernando 65, Aruna Dharmasena 63, Yasoda Lanka 2/24.

 

Tamil Union C & AC vs Navy SC

Tamil Union Cricket & Athletic Club notched up a brilliant performance in the second innings to outclass Navy Sports Club by 8 wickets in their game concluded at R. Premadasa Stadium.

The sailors despite having their noses in front after the first innings, crumbled in the second innings as they were bowled out for a paltry 117. 

Pulina Tharanga backed up his fine century with a four-wicket haul while Devind Pathmanathan bagged 3 wickets in the second innings. Left-handed Imal Liyanage punished the visitors with a run-a-ball 64 to lead the chase. 

Navy – 316 all out in 91.1 overs: Lahiru Silva 64, Lahiru Jayakody 71, Ashan Ranasinghe 64, Ishara Prashan 2/33, Devind Pathmanadan 2/66.

Tamil Union – 273 all out in 69.1 overs: Pulina Tharanga 120, Madushan Ravichandrakumar 41, Ashan Ranasinghe 4/98, Ishan Abeysekara 3/52.

Navy (2nd inn) – 117 all out in 50.3 overs: Lahiru Jayakody 44, Pulina Tharanga 4/21, Devind Pathmanadan 3/33.

Tamil Union (2nd inn) – 162/2 in 29.3 overs: Imal Liyanage 64*, Manoj Sarathchandra 42.

 

NCC vs Negombo CC

Akeel Inham’s 289-ball 191 helped Negombo Cricket Club gain first-innings points over Nondescript Cricket Club at Maitland Place.

In a high-scoring affair, NCC one drop batsman Nimesha Gunasinghe too made an elegant century but could not take his star-studded team over the winning line. Left-handed Sri Lanka batsman, Niroshan Dickwella made a 73-ball 97 opening the batting for NCC.

Incidentally this was the only match which did not end with a result while all the other five matches produced results.

Negombo – 463 all out in 138.3 overs: Akeel Inham 191, Chaturanga Rajapaksha 94, Praveen Dilanka 49, Lahiru Samarakoon 2/35, Dilshan Kanchana 2/77.

NCC – 425 all out in 109.3 overs: Nimesha Gunasinghe 119*, Niroshan Dickwella 97, Sandun Weerakody 73, Lahiru Udara 54, Dinan Fernando 3/89, Pasindu De Silva 3/93, Sevwinda Silva 3/136.

Negombo (2nd inn) – 71/4 in 18 overs: Chathuranga Rajapakshe 23*.
