Australia go past Sri Lanka Comfortably

Australia recorded a comprehensive 88 runs over Sri Lanka in the first game of the Women’s U19 Tri-Nation Series 2024 one-day leg, played today (5th April) at the Galle International Cricket Stadium.   

The Australian skipper Amy Smith decided to bat first after winning the toss in hot and sunny conditions in Galle. The Aussies didn’t have the greatest of starts by losing their opener Kate Pelle inside the 4th over. Lucy Hamilton and Grace Lyons put on a partnership worth 91 runs for the 2nd wicket despite the early setback. 

Sri Lankan bowlers took wickets at regular intervals to break the momentum of the Australian innings. Some quick cameos from Hasrat Gill and Tegan Williamson helped the Australian score reach a competitive 228 runs. The pick of the bowlers for Sri Lanka was Chamudi Prabodha and Shashini Gimhani, Both picked up 3 wickets apiece. 

In reply, Sri Lanka was bowled out for 144 runs inside 44 overs. Opener Sanjana Kavindi played a lone hand scoring 54 runs and top-scoring for Sri Lanka. No other batter made an impact to the innings. 

The Australian bowling unit led by Bonnie Berry and Lucy Hamilton shared six wickets between them, helping dismantle the Sri Lankan batting lineup.
