Six matches of the SLC Major Club 50 Over Tournament 2026 were completed today (3rd September), with Colombo Cricket Club (CCC), Panadura Sports Club, Ace Capital Cricket Club, Colts Cricket Club, Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) and Burgher Recreation Club (BRC) securing victories in their respective encounters.
In a Group A encounter played at Moratuwa, Ace Capital CC secured a comfortable victory over Nugegoda S & WC, with left-arm spinner Wanuja Sahan producing a match-winning spell.
Sahan claimed an impressive six wickets for 34 runs from his 10 overs, dismantling the Nugegoda S & WC batting lineup and restricting them to 167 runs. Ace Capital CC chased down the target with ease, losing only five wickets to secure a convincing victory.
The Group A clash between CCC and Tamil Union C & AC produced a high-scoring encounter, with three batters reaching centuries.
Kamindu Mendis and Lasith Croospulle played starring roles in CCC’s dominant batting effort, while Sineth Jayawardene produced a brilliant century for Tamil Union in a losing cause.
Mendis top-scored with a superb 139 off 129 balls, striking 11 fours and 6 sixes, while Croospulle smashed 148 off 125 balls, including 11 fours and 8 sixes.
For Tamil Union, opener Sineth Jayawardene continued his impressive form with a stroke-filled 136 off 103 balls, hitting 17 fours and 4 sixes.
Another high-scoring encounter took place in Group B, where SSC secured victory over Bloomfield C & AC, with two outstanding centuries lighting up the contest.
Janith Liyanage produced a magnificent 165 off 130 balls for Bloomfield, smashing 18 fours and 5 sixes, while Avishka Fernando led SSC’s successful effort with a brilliant 138 off 114 balls, including 15 fours and 4 sixes.
