Two games of the U19 Division 1 Schools Cricket Tournament were played today (18th September) as St. Servatius’ College & Dharmaraja College earn wins.
St. Servatius’s College, Matara played Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda in the far south at the Uyanwatte Stadium.
Having had a defective start to their innings, the Matara school found themselves at 16 for 2 when Kushan Wijerama walked in. With none other batters scoring over 30 runs with only 3 of them getting into the double figures, this was a commendable knock by the youngster.
Wijerama saw off 102 deliveries to get to his 89 runs with 11 fours and a six. He was sensible and steady. His knock helped St. Servatius’ College to get to a comfortable 216 runs at the end.
Come bowling, the right-arm medium paceman, Damindu Sankalpa struck with early wickets as he feasted himself to a fifer in no time. Sankalpa washed out the entire top order of Dharmasoka College finishing with figures of 5 for 21 in 8 overs.
There was no coming back for Dharmasoka College from that point onwards as they succumbed to 102 runs.
In the hill capital of Sri Lanka, Dharmaraja College met St. Aloysius’ College. This turned out to be a low-scoring encounter as Dharmaraja won by 12 runs.
It was the all-rounder Pulindu Perera and left-arm spinner Dulara Bandulasena who came together to spin out an outrageous victory for Dharmaraja College after being shot out for 161 runs.
The pair shared 7 wickets between them with Perera being the major wrecker with 4 wickets for just 10 runs. Bandulasena bagged 3 wickets for 26 runs.
Pulinda was also the top-scorer for the Rajans with 36 runs to his name while Vidura Lakshan’s valiant knock of 49 runs went in vain as his team was undone for 149 runs.
