Five more games of the ongoing Schools U19 Limited Overs Cricket Tournament 2022/23 were worked off today (17).

In a Tier A fixture of the ongoing First XI Cricket season, Royal College defeated Prince of Wales College by 137 runs at Reid Avenue.

Royalist right-hander Uvindu Weerasekara led the batting front of the onslaught as he constructed a knock of brilliance, scoring 94 runs off 90 deliveries. He carted the Cambrian bowlers for 10 fours and 4 sixers around the huge Royal College Cricket Grounds.

He was supported by the opener Sineth Jayawardena, who also posted a fine fifty to ensure Weerasekara got enough support at the other end. He also rose to the second spot in the top run-getters list in the tournament with that knock.

Skipper Dasis Manchanayake took care of the wicket-taking business as the left-arm spinner bagged 4 wickets for 24 runs, helping his team wrap up the visitors for 118 runs.

Lahiru Amarasekara of St. Joseph’s College had an absolutely stunning day at the office as the right-arm offie cast spells upon St. Benedict’s College batters in their own den.

He picked 5 wickets for 12 runs in just the 5.3 overs that he operated.

The Bens were crushed down to just 79 runs, while the Joes happily cruised past it with 5 wickets intact. This is also just the second fifer of the Tier A tournament so far.

Kavindu Amameth and Anjala Bandara stitched up a 118-run partnership, with both batters getting vital half-centuries to record a massive 159-run victory over St. Thomas’ College, Matara.

Amameth made 78 runs off 120 deliveries, while the Sri Lanka Youth Cricketer Bandara made 66 off 75.

Mohamed Yasir of Zahira College scored 67 runs against Devapathiraja College but unfortunately ended up on the losing side.
