Taxila Central College crown as Division 2 Tier B champions

U19 Schools Cricket Tournament 2022/23


The Final of Division 2 Tier B Inter-Schools Cricket Tournament 2022/23 was held today between Taxila Central College, Horana and Sri Jayawardhanapura MV, Kotte at Nalanda College Grounds in Colombo.

Taxila Central College booked their place in the Final after beating Royal College, Panadura while Sri Jayawardhanapura MV entered the Final after defeating Henegama Central College.

After opting to ball first, Taxila bowlers led by Sanvindu Sevin bowled the oppositions out for 138, the latter took 4 wickets while Jayandu Sankalpa and Sachin Shehan scored 42 & 30, respectively.

In reply, Taxila Central College managed to post 341 to take a huge first-innings lead. The opener, Sandith Ranaweera departed after scoring 92 while Janith Dananjaya recorded a half-century.

Sri Jayawardhanapura second innings were put into a tough position by their openers with both dismissing for ducks. When the final match ended in a draw, they were on 46/4. With the first innings points, Taxila Central College became the champions of Division 1 Tier B competition and earlier, they also won the 21st Battle of Salpiti – Raigam against Piliyandala Central College.

Despite the result of the final, Both Taxila Central College and Sri Jayawardhanapura MV secured promotions to Division 2 Tier A Tournament for the upcoming 2023/24 season.
