Six 2-day encounters of the U19 Inter Schools Cricket Tournament were played today (17th January) at several venues across the island.

The traditional encounter between St. Joseph’s College and Ananda College ended in a draw today at Darley Road, but the hosts managed to take major honours in the drawn game.

Ananda College had a terrible time with the bat today as they were bowled out for just 145 runs for their first innings in reply to the hosts’ 376. The right arm fast medium bowler Muditha Dissanayake was the star performer with the ball for the Joes as he bagged 5 scalps for 15 runs.

After been asked to follow on, the visitors once again faltered with the bat, being restricted to 133/6 at the close of play on day two.

Maliyadeva College claimed first innings points against St. Anthony’s College in their Tier ‘A’ 2-day encounter which ended in a draw today at Maliyadeva College Grounds in Kurunegala.

Pasindu Menaka’s century in the first innings and Dimath Abeysinghe’s match bag of 6 wickets with the ball were the key pillars of the hosts’ dominant show against Antonians.

Naveen Kanishka of Isipathana College smashed a century against Zahira College, helping his side take first innings points in their Tier ‘B’ 2-day encounter, worked off today at Zahira College Grounds.

After restricting the home side to just 148 runs, the visiting Isipathana College posted 216 for their first innings, taking a comfortable 68-run lead. Zahira College were 39/3 at the close of play on day two.

Richmond College managed to take the honors in the drawn traditional encounter against St. Thomas College, which ended today at Uyanwatta Stadium in Matara.

After being 83/3 at stumps on day one, the boys from Galle went past the opposition’s first innings score of 112 quite comfortably, posting 183/7 for their first innings. Kaveesha Induwara (40) and Chehan Subasinghe (35) were the chief scorers for the Richmondites.
